In Florida, the acceptable forms of identification for a document to be notarized include:

  1. Florida driver's license or Florida identification card issued by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
  2. U.S. passport or foreign passport stamped by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service.
  3. Driver's license or identification card issued by another U.S. state, territory, or possession.
  4. Canadian driver's license issued by a province or territory.
  5. U.S. military identification card.
  6. An identification card issued by any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.
  7. Veteran Health Identification Card issued by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
  8. A consular identification card issued by a consulate from the applicant's country of citizenship.
  9. Alien registration card issued by the U.S. Department of Justice (Form I-551 or I-151).
  10. Employment authorization card issued by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (Form I-766 or I-688B).
  11. U.S. permanent resident card or alien registration receipt card (Form I-551).
  12. Temporary resident identification card (Form I-688).
  13. Employment authorization document issued by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (Form I-688A).
  14. Refugee travel document issued by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
  15. Document indicating an applicant's immigration or citizenship status issued by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Please note that this list is not exhaustive, and there may be additional forms of identification that are acceptable. It's always recommended to consult with a notary public or the specific organization requiring notarization to ensure you have the appropriate identification.


 

  • According to  Chapter 117, F.S., copies of public records, such as the records listed below, CANNOT be attested to by a Florida Notary Public:
    • Any document for which photocopying is prohibited
    • Birth Certificate
    • Certificate of Citizenship or Naturalization
    • Death Certificate
    • Documents filed in a court proceeding
    • Documents recorded by the Clerk of the Court
    • Federal or state income tax forms, already filed
    • Marriage Certificate
    • Professional licenses issued by the State of Florida
    • Public records maintained in government offices
    • Student records (transcripts, etc.) kept in public education offices

 

It's important to note that this is not an exhaustive list, and there may be other specific situations where notarization is not permitted or recommended. If you have a specific document that you are unsure about, it is best to consult with a notary public or legal professional for guidance.
